Messe Berlin and ITB underlined their commitment to the LGBTQ+ community with a stand at the Lesbian and Gay City Festival and support for the annual Christopher Street Day (CSD )

Messe Berlin and ITB Berlin maintain a long-standing tradition in campaigning for the rights of queer communities worldwide. Messe Berlin regards itself as an ambassador for human rights and tolerance. Consequently, its commitment to the LGBT Travel segment reaches far beyond the actual show. Equal rights are always a priority topic, whether at panel discussions at the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show ITB Berlin, or ’on tour’ at the world’s most important events.

As usual, Berlin hosted numerous LGBT events during the second half of July. On the weekend of 20/21 July the popular Lesbian and Gay City Festival took place again in the Berlin quarter of Schöneberg. The event also ushered in Pride Week, the highlight of which was the CSD the weekend after.

ITB Berlin / Messe Berlin had made its support clear beforehand and raised a large rainbow flag in front of the company’s admin building. Via internal intranet It had previously called upon its workers to make an appearance and represent the organisation at the festival. ITB Berlin is also a premium sponsor of the Christopher Street Day, which ranks among Europe’s largest Gay Pride events. It shares support for the community with around 500,000 participants from Berlin and the entire world.

“We want to show our open-minded corporate culture. As a trade fair company one of our main tasks is to stage a presentation platform for brands, exhibitors and people. We welcome everyone – regardless of origin, faith or orientation“, said Sabine Bierlein, management assistant at Messe Berlin.

As a company that is vocal in its support for equal rights and its rejection of discrimination, Messe Berlin also participates in the Queer Staff Network Berlin. At the Lesbian and Gay City Festival in Schöneberg it also took part in a guided tour for companies.

LGTB segment features prominently at the annual ITB Berlin

LGBT tourism has been strongly represented at ITB Berlin since the Nineties and continues to play an increasingly important role. In 2010 Gay & Lesbian Travel became an independent show segment. The Gay & Lesbian Travel Pavilion has the largest range of services representing this market of any trade fair in the world. Every year ITB hosts the ITB LGBT Pioneer Awards which honour the global activities of destinations, tour operators and outstanding personalities.

This year, on the Wednesday of ITB, the LGBT Media Networking Brunch took place again. National and international members of the media as well as destinations and specialist exhibitors gathered in an informal atmosphere to discuss the latest LGBT trends and developments. A further highlight was the ever-popular Gay ITB Party Night, to which TomOnTour, various partners and ITB Berlin had invited exhibitors, buyers and representatives of the media.

LGBT Travel has also become a firmly established topic at the ITB Berlin Convention. For members of the public a visit to ITB on the weekend of the show is worth their while: shows, presentations and gay/lesbian photo shoots round off the wide range of tourism products from international companies catering to everyone at ITB.
