Shell plc announces changes to the Executive Committee

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Mar. 4, 2025 – Shell plc, a leading energy company, has announced key changes to its Executive Committee as part of its ongoing transformation to enhance business value and reduce emissions. These changes are designed to support the company’s strategy of delivering strong performance with a focus on sustainability and efficiency.

Transforming Leadership to Drive Business Value

In a statement, Shell’s Chief Executive Officer, Wael Sawan, explained, “We have made significant progress in the last two years building stability with a track record of strong performance and active portfolio management, while simplifying our business. Now is the right time to begin the next phase of our transformation.”

The restructuring aims to streamline Shell's leadership by aligning its business functions into three primary areas: Integrated Gas, Upstream, and Downstream, Renewables, and Energy Solutions. As part of this transition, Shell will also elevate its Trading and Supply division, which plays a crucial role across the entire organization. In addition, Sawan outlined plans to integrate the company’s technical divisions, currently under the Projects and Technology directorate, into its business lines by the first half of 2026. This move is intended to simplify the structure even further, bringing technical expertise closer to where value is generated in the company’s core operations.

Executive Changes: Stepping Down and New Appointments

One of the most notable leadership changes involves Zoë Yujnovich, the current Director of Integrated Gas and Upstream. After more than a decade of distinguished service with Shell, Zoë will step down on March 31, 2025. Her contributions have been integral to Shell's strategy and success over the years, and she will assist with the transition before departing from the company.

Sawan expressed deep appreciation for Yujnovich's leadership, saying, “I have deeply appreciated Zoë’s insights and guidance as a member of the Executive Committee. She has contributed to shaping our company strategy, driven disciplined focus, simplicity, and improved performance. Zoë’s outstanding impact as a leader leaves a lasting legacy and positions us strongly for the future.”

As Zoë Yujnovich transitions out of her role, Shell has appointed Cederic Cremers and Peter Costello to new positions within the Executive Committee. Effective April 1, 2025, Cederic Cremers will take on the role of President of Integrated Gas, and Peter Costello will assume the position of President of Upstream. Both will join the Executive Committee as part of Shell’s strategy to refocus its leadership on its core business areas.

Sawan also welcomed the new appointments, stating, “I wish Zoë success in all that lies ahead and welcome Cederic and Peter to the Executive Committee.”

A New Era for Shell

The changes to Shell’s leadership are part of a broader effort to strengthen the company's position in an increasingly competitive energy market. The restructuring is designed to drive operational efficiencies and simplify Shell’s business operations, all while focusing on sustainability and emissions reduction.

The shift towards a more streamlined leadership structure will enable Shell to focus more effectively on the key areas that matter most to its long-term growth strategy: Integrated Gas, Upstream, and Downstream, Renewables, and Energy Solutions. By integrating its technical capabilities into these business lines, Shell is positioning itself for continued success in the energy transition.

With these strategic changes, Shell continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering value to stakeholders while leading the industry towards a more sustainable future.
