SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 21, 2025 – Volkswagen is revving up the excitement for motorsport fans with a special world premiere at one of the most iconic endurance races in the world. This year’s ADAC 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, set for June 19–22, 2025, will not only feature over 230,000 fans and thrilling racing action, but also the highly anticipated debut of a new GTI special model.

A Milestone Celebration at the Heart of GTI Heritage

Honoring 50 years of GTI excellence

The Golf GTI is nearing its 50th anniversary, and Volkswagen is choosing to kick off the celebration at the perfect venue – the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Synonymous with motorsport heritage and driving thrill, the legendary track is the ideal backdrop to introduce a new chapter in the GTI legacy. At this year’s 24-hour race, fans and media will witness the unveiling of a new GTI special model that marks the beginning of the countdown to the 2026 milestone year.

Beyond the unveiling, Volkswagen is creating a full-on brand experience for attendees with exclusive presentations of performance models from Volkswagen R.

Max Kruse Racing: Pushing Limits on the ‘Green Hell’

Two Golf GTI Clubsport 24h take on the Nürburgring challenge

Volkswagen’s track ambitions shine just as brightly. The Max Kruse Racing team is returning to the Nürburgring with not one, but two Golf GTI Clubsport 24h race cars. Among the drivers is Benjamin ‘Benny’ Leuchter, a professional touring car driver and Volkswagen development driver, whose dual role bridges the gap between engineering precision and racing expertise.

“Last year, Leuchter celebrated victory in the AT class at the wheel of the Golf GTI Clubsport 24h alongside seven-time rallycross world champion Johan Kristoffersson and the two Nürburgring professionals Nico Otto and Heiko Hammel.” The same quartet reunites for 2025, aiming to defend their title.

Also joining the team is Fabian Vettel, brother of four-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel, who will drive the second GTI Clubsport 24h for Max Kruse Racing.

From Portugal to the ‘Ring: Preparation in Motion

Sharpening skills with pre-season testing and endurance series races

The road to the 24-hour race began with a successful winter test session in Portimão, Portugal. These early tests allowed the team to fine-tune the vehicles under competitive conditions. Looking ahead, the cars will compete in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), beginning with the 70th ADAC Westfalenfahrt, a four-hour race that serves as a proving ground before the main event.

Fans can expect a thrilling display of engineering excellence and racing prowess as Volkswagen brings its GTI spirit to life in the ‘Green Hell’.
