Lane built a career across Broadway, Italian cinema and television

Born Abigail Francine Lassman in Brooklyn in 1931 and raised in Manhattan, Lane began performing on Broadway as a teenager. In the late 1940s she joined Xavier Cugat's orchestra as featured vocalist and toured internationally. She married Cugat in 1952.

From 1955, she became a star in Italy through film and television work. In 1958 she starred opposite Tony Randall in the Broadway production of Oh, Captain! She also appeared in Hollywood films alongside Glenn Ford and Audie Murphy, recorded for RCA Victor and Mercury, and performed with Tito Puente. She made frequent television appearances on programs hosted by Steve Allen, Dean Martin and Johnny Carson. In 1960, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her television contributions.

Her style was central to her public image

The auction house describes her jewelry, designer clothing and accessories as reflecting the confidence and sensuality behind her international appeal. Lane married Perry Leff in 1964, and the couple shared more than 55 years together. They raised their two sons, Steven and Andrew, in Los Angeles. In 1992, she published a novel, But Where Is Love? She died in Los Angeles on April 25, 2026.

The Leff family entrusted the collection to John Moran Auctioneers.
