Royal Mint Unveils Star Trek 50p Coins for Franchise's 60th Anniversary

Llantrisant – September 07, 2026 -- The Royal Mint has launched two commemorative 50 pence coins marking 60 years of Star Trek, with the first design going on sale September 3 and priced at £19.95.

The first coin features the Vulcan salute alongside the phrases "Live Long & Prosper" and "Star Trek 60"

It marks the first time an image from the original Star Trek series has appeared on a UK 50p coin. A second coin, arriving in November, depicts four starships spanning different eras of the franchise -- the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, the Enterprise NCC-1701-D, and a Klingon Bird of Prey -- paired with the inscription "Star Trek 60."

Some coins carry color detailing that echoes the show's television history

When the original Star Trek series debuted in 1966, its cast wore brightly colored uniforms designed to stand out on the newly available color televisions of the era. The new coins carry swirling blue and purple nebulas meant to reflect that same visual boldness.

That earlier collector run set the stage for this Star Trek collaboration. Tim Mulhall, head of fan community at the Royal Mint, said the coins let the Mint "boldly venture into space" to mark the anniversary with what he called an out-of-this-world souvenir. Ruth Henriquez, vice president of product and customer experience at Paramount EMEA, said Star Trek has one of the most loyal collector communities in the world and that the coins honor generations of British fans.

Star Trek has produced 12 series and more than 950 episodes since its 1966 debut

The franchise's 14 films have grossed over $2 billion at the box office. Today, 413,000 people are learning Klingon on Duolingo, and eight asteroids along with the first space shuttle orbiter have been named in the franchise's honor.

Both coins go on sale September 3 at 9 a.m. via royalmint.com.
