Seoul, South Korea – September 12, 2026 -- The Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) has opened "Sol LeWitt: Open Structure," the first large-scale survey in Korea dedicated to the American Conceptual artist Sol LeWitt (1928–2007).
The exhibition, which opened September 1, runs through February 28, 2027, and brings together 45 works spanning wall drawings, structures, paintings, photographs, prints, and archival materials.
Thirteen wall drawings are recreated on-site from LeWitt's original instructions.
A signature feature of LeWitt's practice is that his wall drawings are not physically transported but rebuilt for each new venue based on written instructions left by the artist. For this presentation, 23 art students from universities and graduate schools across Korea, forming a group called "APMA MAKERS," executed the 13 wall drawings under the guidance of trained representatives from The LeWitt Estate.
The show traces LeWitt's career from early geometric structures to later color-based work.
The exhibition is organized to move chronologically through LeWitt's practice, highlighting how he used simple geometric elements, rules, and repetition to demonstrate that a single idea could take multiple physical forms. Alongside the wall drawings, visitors can view three-dimensional structures, paintings, photographs, prints, and archival documents.
The exhibition expands on a touring show that originated at Tokyo's Museum of Contemporary Art.
"Sol LeWitt: Open Structure" is organized in collaboration with The LeWitt Estate and based on a presentation that began at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT). APMA has expanded the exhibition in both scale and content for its Seoul run, according to the museum.
Public programs including lectures and curator-led tours accompany the run.
APMA is offering lectures and curator-led tours throughout the exhibition period, aimed at helping visitors understand LeWitt's working methods and the broader principles of Conceptual art. The museum is located at 100 Hangang-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, closed on Mondays as well as September 24–26, 2026, January 1, 2027, and February 6–8, 2027.
