Bellevue – October 28, 2026 -- Families in Bellevue, Washington, can now apply for kindergarten through Grade 4 at a new BASIS Independent Lower School campus that opens in Fall 2027 for the 2027–28 school year.
The Lower School sits directly across from the current campus
The new campus is at 15760 NE 4th Street, across the street from BASIS Independent Bellevue's existing school. Once it opens, the current campus becomes the Upper School for Grades 5–12.
A renovated two-story building holds 16 classrooms
The renovated building covers approximately 30,000 square feet on 1.5 acres. Inside, it will have 16 classrooms, a dining hall and an exercise room. Dedicated spaces are planned for music, performing arts, visual arts and engineering.
Outside, students get a playground and a covered play area.
Rebecca Huang moves from Associate Head to lead the campus
Rebecca Huang, currently Bellevue's Associate Head of School, will lead the Lower School. She said the space is designed so younger students can "explore, ask questions, and discover what they're capable of" within the community they already call home.
The school cites local demand as the reason for expanding
Toby Walker, Vice President of BASIS Independent Schools, said the expansion reflects demand for a BASIS Independent education in Bellevue. He added that separate spaces for students at different developmental stages build on an experience that combines teachers, academic challenge and freedom to think boldly.
The Lower School builds on Bellevue's existing Lower School program. It pairs expert teachers with a liberal arts and sciences curriculum.
Applications for 2027–28 are open
Applications are open for kindergarten through Grade 4. Families can find details on the new campus, upcoming admissions events and the application process on the school's website.
