Solvely.ai Wants Its AI Tutor to Make Students More Capable

San Francisco – October 10, 2026 -- Solvely.ai's AI math solver walks learners through text or image-based questions with step-by-step explanations, follow-up questions and visual whiteboard explanations. The company says the goal is helping people build understanding and skills rather than simply completing tasks.

Co-founder says AI should empower learners, not replace them

Co-founder Richard Weiqi Zhang shared the approach at Funding Conviction, a September 18, 2026, webinar hosted by Edtech Insiders. Reach Capital's Steve Kupfer and Minerva's Ben Nelson also joined the discussion. "The goal is still to empower the learner, not to replace them," Zhang said.

Specialized models route each problem to the right tool

Solvely builds its own models and agent systems for learning, using education-domain post-training to tailor models to specific tasks. Its agentic system identifies instructional content in images and documents, segments individual questions and routes each problem to the appropriate solving algorithm and visualization tools. For problem-solving, it cross-checks responses across multiple models.

An Anthropic case study describes how Solvely uses Claude to create interactive visualizations that learners explore by changing inputs.

Study guides, flashcards and quizzes come from your own materials

For exam preparation, learners can turn their course materials into study guides, flashcards and quizzes. Solvely's AI detector for writing review flags text for closer examination and does not prove authorship. Users remain responsible for reviewing output and following applicable academic requirements.

Solvely lands on two industry lists

Solvely was named to Nasdaq and Notable Capital's inaugural Prosumer AI 40, alongside OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor and Lovable. It was also selected for the 2026 GSV Cup 50, which recognizes 50 of the world's most promising EdTech startups.
