Bruichladdich's Second Islay Rye Whisky Hits US Shelves at $59.99

New York – October 06, 2026 -- Bruichladdich has launched the second expression of The Laddie Rye, a whisky distilled from rye and malting barley grown within 11 miles of its Islay distillery, now exclusively available across the United States for $59.99.

The whisky is aged six years and bottled at 50% ABV

Distilled from a single-farm 2019 harvest, The Laddie Rye was matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill American Virgin Oak casks. A portion of the bourbon barrels was sent back to the cooperage to be de-charred and re-charred, a process Bruichladdich says adds toasted oak and wood spice to the final spirit.

Farmer Andrew Jones has grown the rye crop since 2017

Bruichladdich sources the rye from Coull Farm on Islay, and the distillery says it is currently the only one on the island producing a rye whisky. The crop is used as part of a rotational farming system intended to diversify soil and cut reliance on agrochemicals, supporting what the company calls regenerative agriculture.

Master Blender Adam Hannett said the re-charred barrels bring "immense wood spice and a robust leathery oak character" that complements the earthiness of the Islay-grown rye. He added that the distillery's mashmen extracted more flavor from the grain this time, building on lessons from the first Laddie Rye release.

The flavor profile leans on clove, licorice and citrus

Tasting notes describe crushed cloves, aniseed and toasted coconut on the nose, followed by peppery spice, nutmeg and orchard fruit on the palate. The finish combines earthy rye with warm oak spice, honeyed fruit and bright citrus.

The release marks Bruichladdich's 25th year since its 2001 revival

The distillery now works with 19 farming partners across Islay, who supply more than half of the malting barley used in its total production. Bruichladdich became the first Scotch whisky company in the world to achieve B Corp certification in 2020.

The Laddie Rye is sold at us.bruichladdich.com and at select specialist retailers in the United States.
