San Francisco – October 01, 2026 -- Siip Coffee has launched a free app and personalized subscription designed to match coffee drinkers with beans suited to their actual taste, not just what they think they like.
The app builds a "Taste Profile" for each user by tracking every coffee they rate, whether from their subscription, a cafe, or a grocery shelf. Users scan a bag and answer one question -- "How was this coffee?" -- and that rating refines future picks.
Users often misjudge their own preferences, Siip's data shows
In onboarding surveys, Siip users most frequently say they prefer chocolate and nutty flavors, but across tens of thousands of ratings, those flavors are consistently outperformed by less familiar categories like floral and berry notes. Roast preference shows a similar gap: six in ten users say they like medium roast, yet they rate lighter roasts higher.
"Our goal is to help coffee drinkers better understand their taste, to go from 'I like this' to 'I'm starting to understand why,'" said Nick Spilger, founder and CEO of Siip Coffee. "We built Siip around the idea that people shouldn't have to become coffee experts before they can explore great coffee."
The subscription pairs familiar picks with deliberate surprises
Siip factors in origin, variety, processing method, roast level, and flavor profile across tens of thousands of coffees. A shipment might include two coffees from the same country processed differently, letting subscribers taste how that single variable changes flavor.
Richie Seaberry, a Siip subscriber, described the shift in his own preferences: six months ago he would have said he liked dark roast with cream, but now points to medium roast coffees from Nicaragua with nutty or chocolate notes.
Coffee comes from roasters with long farmer relationships
Siip sources from founding roaster partners including Onyx Coffee Lab, Equator Coffees, George Howell Coffee, Cat & Cloud, and Joe Coffee, several of whom have worked with the same farmers for years or decades. Siip pulls from each roaster's full catalog, routing limited releases and rare single origins to subscribers whose taste profiles match.
Pricing starts at $14.40 per bag for new subscribers
The Siip app is free worldwide on iOS and Android. The personalized subscription is available in the United States at $14.40 per bag of whole beans for the first two months, rising to $18 per bag afterward, with free shipping. Subscribers can skip, pause, or cancel at any time.
