Zahav Foods Adds Matbucha and Harissa Hummus to Whole Foods Shelves

Philadelphia – September 23, 2026 -- Zahav Foods has launched two new hummus flavors, Zahav Hummus Matbucha and Zahav Hummus Harissa, now stocked at 185 Whole Foods Market locations across 20 states, including Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles and San Diego.

The brand was co-founded in 2024 by five-time James Beard Award-winning restaurateurs Chef Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook, the team behind Philadelphia's Michelin-recommended Zahav and Laser Wolf. Each 10 oz package retails for $7.99 and is Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Kosher, and Seed Oil Free.

Matbucha and harissa join schug as the brand's flavor lineup

The two new condiments join Hummus Schug to complete what the company calls its flavored hummus trifecta. Matbucha blends roasted red peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil and spices for a Moroccan-style topping. Harissa combines Aleppo, guajillo, chipotle and bell peppers with olive oil and spices for a smoky North African profile. Schug, the spiciest of the three, uses fresh serrano peppers, parsley, cilantro, garlic and coriander.

All three sit atop the brand's flagship Zahav Restaurant-Recipe Hummus base, made from six ingredients — tehina, chickpeas, lemon juice, salt, cumin and garlic — with no added oil or preservatives. The recipe uses roughly four times the standard amount of premium roasted tehina sourced from Soom Foods.

Retail footprint expands beyond Whole Foods into regional chains

Bristol Farms now carries all four Zahav Hummus SKUs across 14 Southern California locations, while Barons Market stocks the classic and schug varieties in 10 stores across San Diego and Riverside County. Giant will expand from 31 to 51 locations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the DMV region, adding Harissa and Schug. Harris Teeter, a Zahav Hummus retailer since November 2025, now carries Hummus Schug across 217 locations. McCaffrey's Markets in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Central New Jersey newly carry all four SKUs.

Zahav Foods currently ranks No. 6 among 129 hummus brands tracked in NielsenIQ's latest 13-week ranking. The company first launched its original hummus exclusively at Whole Foods in January 2024 before expanding nationwide by September of that year.
