Box Tops for Education Honors Teachers with $300,000 Award to Transform Schools Nationwide

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 2, 2025 – Just in time for Teacher Appreciation Month, Box Tops for Education is shining a bright light on educators with a generous $300,000 award distributed to 10 schools across the country — each receiving $30,000 to enrich student experiences in meaningful, lasting ways.

For South Kearns Elementary School near Salt Lake City, Utah, this funding is already transforming the school playground into a space of joy and connection. New permanent soccer goals are now a part of recess and after-school play, encouraging physical activity and teamwork for all students.

Empowering Schools Through Educator-Led Initiatives

Since its founding by General Mills in 1996, Box Tops for Education has become one of the most impactful school earnings programs in the U.S., with nearly $1 billion raised to support education essentials. The latest $300,000 award, granted in December 2024, is being brought to life this spring through educator-led projects that reflect the unique needs of each school community.

Principal Kimberly Babka of South Kearns Elementary shared how their award is already making a difference:
“This $30,000 funding from Box Tops gave us the opportunity to say ‘yes’ to ideas that truly enrich our school community for students and teachers alike — starting with new soccer goals that are already making a difference,” she said. “They’ve created a space for connection, teamwork, and joy. This support not only uplifts our students but also affirms the work educators do every day!”

How the App Is Making Giving Back Easier

What started as a paper-clipping program has evolved into a smart, app-powered platform with over 217,000 active users per month. Families now earn cash for their schools by simply scanning receipts after purchasing participating products or by using the new Connected Accounts feature, which automates the process — no scanning required.

Box Tops’ digital success shows in the numbers: December 2024 saw a 19% year-over-year increase in earnings, thanks to 4.9 million more Box Tops collected compared to the previous year.

“Box Tops for Education has always been about giving schools the resources they need to support educators and students in meaningful ways,” said Tiffani Daniels, director of loyalty and rewards at General Mills. “This Teacher Appreciation Month, Box Tops values the importance of educators, celebrating them the entire month of May — and it’s inspiring to see how teachers at South Kearns Elementary and the other nine schools are using this funding to transform the lives of their students.”

Celebrating the 10 Winning Schools

In addition to South Kearns Elementary, the following schools received $30,000 in Box Tops for Education funding:
