Teekay Warns Job Seekers: Real Recruiters Never Charge Fees

Global – October 27, 2026 -- Anyone applying for a job at shipping company Teekay should know that the company never charges candidates a fee at any stage of hiring. Teekay says fraudsters are impersonating the company and offering fake jobs in exchange for payment or personal information.

Teekay lists three legitimate ways it hires

Every genuine shore-based or seagoing opening leads back to the official Careers site. Teekay's Marine HR and HR representatives also recruit directly, and those openings link to the company's website or official social channels on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X. They can also come from someone using an @teekay.com email address.

Occasionally, Teekay works with reputable third-party recruiters or manning agents. These never ask applicants for recruitment, placement, processing, visa, medical or company-approved training fees.

Three requests should end your application immediately

Stop if anyone claiming to represent Teekay asks you to pay an application, recruitment, placement, processing, visa, medical examination, training, document verification, security clearance or travel fee as a condition of employment. Stop, too, if they ask for banking or financial details before a formal offer, or for sensitive personal information with no legitimate recruitment purpose.

Check the email domain and the job listing

Teekay warns that look-alike email domains may be used to impersonate the company, so candidates should confirm that messages come from a genuine @teekay.com address. They should also confirm the role is posted on the official Careers page, and treat unsolicited messages on social media or messaging apps with caution.

Candidates who are unsure whether a message is legitimate can contact Teekay's media team. The company also asks readers to share the warning with friends who are job hunting.
