How Pro Makeup Artists Prep Tennis Stars' Skin for the Camera

Carson, Calif. – November 06, 2026 -- A four-step skincare routine, from exfoliating powder to SPF 50 moisturizer, helped prepare six professional tennis players for their close-ups at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Portrait + Content Day on November 4.

Skincare brand Dermalogica teamed up with Highlight Artist Agency for the event. Celebrity makeup artists Carolina Benita and Jenny Ventura worked on the players, drawing on their experience with Hollywood red carpets and editorial beauty.

Two artists worked with six tennis players

Benita prepped Hanyu Guo, Kristina Mladenovic, Sara Errani, Linda Nosková and Karolína Muchová. Ventura worked with Kateřina Siniaková.

"Great makeup starts with great skin prep, and Daily Microfoliant is one of my go-tos," Benita said. She said it smooths away dullness and uneven texture, which matters on shoot days when every detail shows up on camera.

Ventura's goal is skin that looks fresh, hydrated and naturally radiant before foundation goes on. She said properly prepped skin lets products apply more seamlessly.

The artists built the routine around four Dermalogica products

The artists describe three core steps: refine texture, enhance visible radiance and replenish hydration. Daily sun protection is the fourth.

  • Daily Microfoliant: An exfoliating powder that helps remove dull surface cells and dry buildup. Both artists use it to smooth texture, and it is a staple in Ventura's kit.
  • Phyto Nature E2: A lightweight treatment with plant-based exosome technology and Pumpkin Enzyme. It helps visibly refine texture and boost radiance, and Ventura likes that it layers under makeup without a heavy feel.
  • Pro-Collagen Banking Water Cream: A lightweight moisturizer with water-burst technology. It hydrates, helps skin look plumper and smoother, and supports the skin barrier.
  • Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50: A moisturizer combining broad-spectrum SPF 50 with hydration to help protect against UV exposure.
Sun protection follows the players from the shoot to the court

Ventura and Benita point to sunscreen as especially relevant for tennis players, who spend hours training and competing outdoors.

Dermalogica was founded in 1986 by skin therapist Jane Wurwand. Taylor Bennett, the brand's Director of US Marketing and Public Relations, described the Highlight Artist Agency collaboration as a natural extension of the brand's professional roots, which began in the treatment room.
