Youngstown Orthopaedic Joins Cleveland Clinic on Nov. 1

Youngstown, Ohio – October 16, 2026 -- Patients of Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates (YOA) will become Cleveland Clinic patients on November 1, 2026, when the practice officially joins the health system. The practice says it does not expect any interruption in care.

Dr. James D. Solmen retires October 31

Dr. James D. Solmen will retire from medicine effective October 31, 2026, after a career serving patients throughout the Mahoning Valley. Patients who saw him can continue their care with one of the practice's other orthopaedic physicians or podiatrists. The practice also apologized to Dr. Solmen for an earlier letter that wrongly listed his middle initial as "R."

Three locations change on November 1

The offices in Poland and Warren/Howland will become Cleveland Clinic Medical Outpatient Centers. They will stay at their current addresses and keep their rehabilitation services. The Boardman location will remain open for imaging and become an Ortho Express Care site, which offers quick access to orthopaedic specialists.

Orthopaedic physicians, a physiatrist (pain management physician), podiatrists, advanced practice providers and staff will continue serving patients across the Mahoning Valley.

What patients need to do

Patients do not need to act to move their records. The records will transfer with the practice to Cleveland Clinic and will be available in the MyChart online portal.

Even recent patients may be asked to complete Cleveland Clinic's registration and insurance verification. When scheduling, patients should have insurance information ready. They should bring photo identification, an insurance card and any co-payment due to the visit. Insurance questions can go to 844.500.9451, and appointments can still be booked at 330-758-0577.

How to get Dr. Solmen's records

After his retirement, patients can request records for care Dr. Solmen provided by calling 330-758-0577, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The practice asks patients to allow 30 days for the transfer.
