Guided Biofilm Therapy in the fast lane at IDS 2023

Cologne, Germany, March 14, 2023: EMS, Electro Medical Systems S.A., will present the game changing Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) at the International Dental Show (IDS, 14.-18. March, Cologne) in Hall 10.2. This year’s focus will be on education with the Swiss Dental Academy (SDA), as well as on important innovations relating to the GBT protocol, which further improve patients’ and clinicians’ comfort. One example is GBT FLOWCONTROL®, the new, highly efficient suction cannula that reduces aerosol and splatter effectively. Another highlight for IDS visitors is the chance to experience GBT for themselves during a live treatment in one of three GBT Lounges situated within the booth.

The Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol is part of a comprehensive preventive and maintenance concept that aims not only to preserve patients’ oral health but also to improve patient compliance and, subsequently, recall attendance. It is a modular, systematic, predictable and logical solution for oral biofilm and calculus management in prophylaxis using state-of-the-art technologies such as AIRFLOW® and PERIOFLOW® with AIRFLOW® PLUS Powder (erythritol-based), and PIEZON® PS NO PAIN (piezoceramic), all combined in the AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master.

The GBT protocol comprises eight steps that can be modified, depending upon the clinical situation. The aim of this protocol is to be minimally invasive, preserve hard and soft tissue, and meet patient expectations. The protocol has been proven to be highly efficient, safe, and comfortable, not only for the patient but also for the clinician.

High patient satisfaction is one of the main reasons for more and more practices becoming GBT Certified. To date, over 10,000 enthusiastic practices and clinics have joined the GBT network and profit from exclusive educational material, marketing assets and premium services.

With more than 10,000 GBT Certified practices worldwide, the GBT Movement is constantly growing and confirms that prevention with GBT is the future of dentistry,” emphasized Dr. Ernst Wühr, General Manger EMS.

In an unprecedented global survey on the Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol, 92% of patients would recommend GBT to family and friends. This survey is still ongoing and, to date, we have received more than 200,000 patients’ feedback thanks to the GBT Certified practices. GBT Certified practices represent success, quality, motivated prophylaxis teams and - now impressively confirmed - excellent patient acceptance,” stressed Celso Da Costa, Director of Swiss Dental Academy (SDA) and Director of Marketing (Dental and Medical).

The success of the GBT protocol is based upon ongoing innovation and training. Continuous technological improvements enable clinicians to provide state-of-the-art treatments. The Swiss Dental Academy (SDA) strives to educate clinicians on prevention, the GBT protocol and the latest technologies, as well as scientific evidence, to safeguard quality and assure long-term oral health.

For the continuous improvement of patient and clinician comfort, EMS will present its latest innovations at the IDS 2023: the new PIEZON® PI MAX, the GBT FLOWCONTROL® and their continued commitment to education, with the new GBT e-learning platform exclusively for GBT Certified Practices and the new GBT hands-on training kit.

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)

Guided Biofilm Therapy is an evidence-based, clinical, indication-oriented, modular, preventive and therapeutic protocol for all oral applications. The GBT protocol was developed by practitioners and scientists in close cooperation with EMS and consists of eight modular treatment steps. The treatment is minimally invasive while maintaining a high level of comfort for patients as well as clinicians and maximising safety and efficiency. Patients love GBT because it is painless - a crucial factor for a good recall rate and thus long-term oral health success. GBT Certified practices represent success, quality and the satisfaction of patients and prophylaxis teams.

Swiss Dental Academy (SDA)

Founded by EMS in 2005, the Swiss Dental Academy (SDA) offers thousands of GBT courses per year. Hundreds of SDA trainers teach dental teams in 40 countries worldwide how GBT works in practice. The SDA team of trainers consists of highly experienced dental professionals who are supported by a growing number of young, enthusiastic colleagues. In addition to dealer-based courses, GBT practice courses and GBT demonstrations are offered at on-site practices, GBT training centres or online (sda.dental/Contact-GBT-Expert). All practice-based courses comply with current national or regional hygiene regulations.
