Boston – September 11, 2026 -- Spark Perceptions is preparing to launch EZ-UP Aurora, an automatic combustion device designed for whole cannabis flower and dry herbs, with mass production set to begin in October 2026.
The device keeps flower whole instead of converting it into oil or concentrate
Unlike vape cartridges or pre-rolls that process flower into another format, Aurora is built to preserve the traditional combustion experience -- the aroma, flavor, and visible burn that many consumers value. Users select and load their own flower, and the device automates the surrounding tasks: feeding, controlled burning, and ash collection, all inside a single enclosure.
One load can deliver multiple hits without a fully lit bowl
Instead of packing and lighting a full bowl at once, Aurora feeds flower into a dedicated combustion area in calculated portions. Only a small amount of material is exposed to heat at any time, which the company says gives users more control over consumption pacing and reduces unnecessary burning between hits. Ash and residuals are collected separately, clearing space for the next feed automatically.
Spark Perceptions compares the approach to automated espresso machines
The company argues that automation doesn't have to eliminate ritual, pointing to modern espresso machines that automate dosing, temperature, and cleaning while coffee drinkers still care about the beans themselves. "Many innovations have focused on how flower is heated. We ask a broader question: What if the device managed the entire process around it?" said Dr. Roger Gong, CEO of Spark Perceptions.
The design targets the manual steps around smoking, not the smoking itself
Traditional flower consumption involves packing, lighting, smoking, and clearing ash before repeating the cycle. Aurora consolidates feeding, combustion, and ash removal into one connected system, aiming to remove repetitive manual work while leaving the core act of choosing and smoking flower untouched.
