Disney's The Imagineering Story Returns With Season 2 on Disney+

United States – October 24, 2026 -- A second season of The Imagineering Story is officially in production and will debut on Disney+ in 2028, giving fans a new look at how Disney's theme park creators work. Filmmaker Leslie Iwerks and Walt Disney Imagineering President and Chief Creative Officer Bruce Vaughn announced it at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa.

Season 2 follows Imagineers from concept to construction

The first season arrived in 2019 and chronicled decades of Disney history. Season 2 takes a different approach: it follows Imagineers as they shape what the source describes as one of the most ambitious periods in Disney Experiences history.

Vaughn said Iwerks has been present as projects moved from blue-sky concept to the "dirt is moving!" stage. She has been granted unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the creative process, so viewers can see not only what Imagineers are building but how they think.

Iwerks said the idea for a new chapter began a few years ago, when it was revealed that dozens of new projects were on the way. Her conclusion: there are several chapters to tell.

Disney Legends joined the stage at Horizons: A Carousel of Progress

The announcement came during the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress presentation. Vaughn traced Imagineering's roots back nearly 75 years to the creative team Walt Disney assembled to help bring Disneyland to life. He also recognized Disney Legends Tony Baxter, Wing Chao, Robert Coltrin, Bob Gurr, Joe Rohde and Kim Irvine, who all joined him onstage.

Iwerks brings three generations of Disney history to the project

Iwerks created The Imagineering Story and recently helmed Disneyland Handcrafted and Disney Worldbuilders, streaming August 20 on Disney+. Her grandfather, Disney Legend Ub Iwerks, helped shape the earliest days of Disney animation. Her father, Disney Legend Don Iwerks, spent decades pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.

Growing up around Imagineers left its mark. "I was really raised by Imagineers," she told the crowd.

Her goal for the new season is to make viewers feel they are right there with her on the journey.
