BMW Rolls Out Exciting Spring 2025 Updates: More Range, More Style, and Smarter Tech for Drivers

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 8, 2025 - BMW kicks off spring 2025 with a powerful set of updates across its lineup—boosting EV range, speeding up hybrid charging, debuting a sleek new Gran Coupe, and enhancing digital and driving features for a better consumer experience.

Improved Efficiency Powers Up BMW i5 Range

BMW’s all-electric i5 models are getting a welcome upgrade starting March 2025, thanks to technical advancements that improve energy consumption and increase driving range. These enhancements are especially relevant for environmentally conscious drivers and electric vehicle enthusiasts.

Drivers of the BMW i5 eDrive40 can now expect up to 310 miles of range on 19-inch wheels—a 5% boost from before. Meanwhile, 20-inch wheels deliver 300 miles (up 8%), and 21-inch wheels reach 278 miles (up 3%). The i5 xDrive40follows suit with up to 278 miles on 19-inch wheels, marking a 5% improvement.

BMW attributes these gains to silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor components used in the power electronics, along with optimized wheel bearings that reduce friction and rolling resistance. As BMW explains, “These components are not only more efficient, but also more powerful and more temperature-resistant than semiconductors made of conventional silicon.”

The 2026 BMW 228 Gran Coupe Arrives with Style and Performance

Production of the rear-wheel-drive BMW 228 Gran Coupe began this March, offering a sporty new choice for performance-focused drivers who don’t need all-wheel-drive. This model packs a 241-horsepower TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 6.1 seconds, while maintaining impressive fuel economy.

Starting at an MSRP of $39,600 (plus $1,175 destination and handling), this Gran Coupe includes standout features such as the M Sport exterior design, Adaptive M Suspension, BMW Curved Display with Operating System 9, and available options for automated driving and parking systems.

Deliveries are expected to begin in mid-2025, giving consumers an exciting new option in the premium compact sedan segment.

Faster Charging for Plug-In Hybrid Fans

BMW is also speeding up charging for select plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The BMW 550e xDrive, X5 xDrive50e, and M5 will now support AC charging at 11 kW, up from the previous 7.4 kW. This means significantly reduced charging times, adding convenience for busy drivers who rely on electric power for daily commutes.

Seal & Drive Tire Kit: A Game-Changer in On-the-Go Mobility

Addressing one of the most common driver headaches—tire punctures—BMW has introduced an innovative Seal & Drive Tire Kit as standard on all 5 Series models from March production.

This one-piece kit allows drivers to seal and reinflate a damaged tire using a magnet-mounted compressor and hose system, enabling travel of up to 120 miles at 50 mph after a puncture. It’s a practical, peace-of-mind feature for daily drivers and road-trippers alike.

Stylish Colors, Luxurious Interiors, and Digital Upgrades

BMW continues to raise the bar in personalization and tech integration:

  • Frozen Portimao Blue metallic paint and new Merino leather interior color options (Dark Violet/Atlas Grey and Taupe/Atlas Grey) are now available for the 5 Series.
  • The BMW M5 gains additional interior finishes: Dark Violet/Black and Taupe/Deep Lagoon Merino leather.
  • Tanzanite Blue metallic joins the palette for the BMW X6 xDrive40i, while the BMW X7 xDrive40i now includes Parking Assistant Professional as standard.

Digital upgrades include access to the YouTube app and Personal eSIM for select models with BMW Operating System 9, offering enhanced streaming and WiFi hotspot functionality. Cars running Operating System 8.5 also benefit from a more intuitive map interface.

More Range for the iX xDrive60

Rounding out the updates, the 2026 BMW iX xDrive60 now offers an EPA-estimated 364 miles of range with 20-inch Aero wheels—7% higher than projected—cementing its status as one of the top contenders in the luxury electric SUV segment.
