GM Drives Ahead with Strong Sales Growth in First Half of 2025

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 16, 2025 – General Motors has delivered a standout performance in the first half of 2025, reporting a 7% increase in U.S. sales for the second quarter and an impressive 12% growth for the first six months of the year. With industry-leading growth outpacing the estimated 4% total market expansion, GM cemented its position as the U.S. automotive industry's sales leader — both in total and retail figures.

“We have made significant investments in our crossovers, SUVs, and pickups – both gas and electric – along with great execution by our employees, suppliers and dealers,” said Duncan Aldred, GM senior vice president and president of North America. “These efforts have made GM the engine of growth for the U.S. industry this year.”

Crossovers and Pickups Drive Record Results

GM’s success has been fueled by a wave of all-new or refreshed models, including:

  • Chevrolet Trax, Traverse, and Equinox
  • GMC Acadia and Terrain
  • Buick Envista and Encore GX

The result? GM posted record year-to-date crossover sales. Buick, focusing exclusively on crossovers, delivered the largest first-half sales gain among mainstream brands with a 29% increase.

Chevrolet marked its strongest first-half performance since 2019, posting a 9% rise in sales. The brand celebrated record-breaking crossover sales, with the Equinox setting a new high. GMC also reported its best-ever start to the year, highlighted by record Sierra deliveries. These successes keep GM on track to extend its reign as the leader in full-size pickup sales for a sixth consecutive year and hold its position as the full-size SUV market leader for an incredible 51st year.

Electric Vehicles Accelerate Beyond Expectations

GM’s electric vehicle lineup continued its upward trajectory, growing faster than the overall EV market. Sales soared by over 100% in the second quarter alone. Chevrolet emerged as the best-selling EV brand during this period, while Cadillac secured its spot as the luxury EV market share leader. Cadillac also achieved its highest retail market share since 2014, marking a significant milestone for the iconic brand.

Expanding Influence in Fleet Sales

GM Envolve, the company’s fleet sales division, reported growth in both first-half sales and market share, reinforcing the brand’s strength not only among retail customers but also in the commercial sector.

A Promising Outlook for Consumers

With its refreshed lineup and strong performance across both gasoline and electric vehicles, GM offers consumers a diverse range of choices, backed by the confidence of proven market leadership. The company's growing footprint in EVs and consistent dominance in pickups and SUVs mean buyers can expect continued innovation and strong resale values.
