Stellantis Takes the Lead in EU Hybrid Car Sales for Q1 2025

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 3, 2025 – European car buyers are choosing hybrid vehicles in growing numbers, and Stellantis is firmly in the driver’s seat. In the first quarter of 2025, the global automaker emerged as the leader in hybrid car sales across the EU30, highlighting its growing appeal to eco-conscious consumers seeking performance, variety, and innovation.

A Record-Breaking Quarter Across Europe

Stellantis achieved an impressive 17.3% market share in the total EU30 automotive market during Q1 2025—its best quarterly result since early 2024. This figure marks a steady climb from the company's 17% full-year share in 2024, signaling growing consumer trust and momentum.

What’s behind this success? Best-selling favorites like the FIAT Panda and the PEUGEOT 208, 2008, and 3008 played a major role. But Stellantis attributes its achievement to collective brand strength, as all brands under its umbrella contributed to the hybrid sales surge.

Dominance in Key EU Markets

Consumers in France, Italy, and Portugal continue to show overwhelming preference for Stellantis models:

  • France: Stellantis secured four of the top six positions in total vehicle sales, with the PEUGEOT 208 ranking number one.
  • Italy: FIAT Panda took the top spot as the most sold vehicle, with four Stellantis models in the top five overall.
  • March 2025 Standouts:
    • PEUGEOT 208: #2 in the B segment
    • Citroën C3: #4
    • Opel Corsa: #5
    • PEUGEOT 2008: climbed the podium in the B-SUV segment
    • PEUGEOT 3008: ranked among the top 5 in the C-SUV category

Strategic Hybrid Expansion

The company’s success is not just a result of strong branding—it’s also driven by product strategy. Stellantis has focused on broadening its hybrid vehicle lineup, catering to consumers looking for efficient alternatives while gradually transitioning toward electric driving.

Luca Napolitano, Commercial Operations Officer for Stellantis, shared the vision behind this strategy:
"We are fighting for the top spot in Europe and maintaining high pressure in the B-SUV segment, where we launched three key new models, the Citroën C3 Aircross, Opel/Vauxhall Frontera and FIAT Grande Panda. Furthermore, our decision to expand the range of hybrid vehicles, offering more choices to customers and facilitating a gradual transition to electric propulsion, granted us the leadership in the hybrid segment."

Looking Ahead with Confidence

March was a particularly strong month, generating the highest order intake in a year. Napolitano further emphasized the company’s long-term momentum:
"In a medium to long-term perspective, it is also worth noting the excellent order intake in March, the best month in a year, while our overall order portfolio at the end of the quarter reached the highest level in the last 10 months. Stellantis therefore operates with a strategic vision that will lead us to consolidate and improve the good results of this first quarter."

Success Beyond Passenger Cars

Stellantis also reaffirmed its dominance in the light commercial vehicle segment across the EU30, holding a 30.2% market share—climbing to an even more impressive 31.5% in the electric commercial vehicle category. Its Stellantis Pro One lineup ranks #1 in 8 of the top 10 EU markets.
