SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 1, 2024 - Volkswagen has begun series production of its newest SUV, the Tayron, at its main plant in Wolfsburg, Germany. This versatile SUV, which offers an optional seven-seat configuration, joins the Golf, Tiguan, and Touran on the production line at the world's largest car factory.
A Team Effort
The start of Tayron production was marked by a celebration with employees from various departments, highlighting the collaborative effort involved in bringing this new model to life.
"A car launch is always a team effort, involving the entire production team," said Wolfsburg Plant Manager Uwe Schwartz. "With the Tayron, many cogs meshed perfectly: from the press shop to body construction, painting, assembly, and vehicle completion."
Wolfsburg: A Model of Production Excellence
The Wolfsburg plant, which has produced over 48 million vehicles to date, serves as a role model within the Volkswagen production network.
"Wolfsburg has always been a role model within our production network – and will continue to fulfill this role even in challenging times," said Christian Vollmer, Board Member for Production and Logistics at the Volkswagen brand. “Other locations look to what happens in Wolfsburg. The successful Tayron SoP [Start of Production] sends a strong signal.”
Meeting Challenges, Delivering Results
Despite the challenges of integrating the Tayron into the existing production line alongside the Tiguan, the team successfully adhered to the planned production schedule.
"Our colleagues can be proud of this achievement,” added Schwartz. “In the coming weeks we will do everything we can to ramp up Tayron production successfully.”
Job Security and Customer Excitement
The launch of the Tayron is not only a testament to Volkswagen's production capabilities but also an important contributor to job security at the Wolfsburg plant.
Jürgen Mahnkopf, Deputy Chairman of the General and Group Works Council, expressed his confidence in the Tayron's success, stating, "Customers in China are already excited about this car and the Tayron will also find many buyers in Europe."

It offers customers a spacious and versatile vehicle with a range of efficient engine options, including two next-generation plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid) that provide an electric range of over 100 kilometers and a total driving range of up to 850 kilometers.
