IONNA’s California Wave: $250M Investment, New Rechargery Stations, and Easier EV Road Trips

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – November 25, 2025 – A big new jolt is coming to California’s EV scene as IONNA, the multi-automaker charging joint venture, kicks off a fresh wave of Rechargery stations and plans to invest more than $250 million across the Golden State over the next three years.

California Becomes IONNA’s Launchpad for Better EV Charging
IONNA, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, has just wrapped a week-long kickoff tour across major California cities, celebrating new Rechargery stations in San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, and Westminster. These sites are only a slice of more than 1,000 contracted bays now planned across the state, feeding into a nationwide network of just over 4,000 bays contracted in the U.S.

The focus is shifting from building the network on paper to “flipping on the switch” at scale, with more than 1,100 bays currently in construction or beyond nationwide. “This week’s expansion into California is a snapshot of the national momentum IONNA has built in under a year’s time,” said Seth Cutler, Chief Executive Officer of IONNA. “‘IONNA Speed’ isn’t just about how quickly we grow, but also how we deliver, and the IONNA team consistently operates with a driver-first mentality to elevate the charging experience. Every new Rechargery reflects our commitment to providing the coverage, quality, and reliability our drivers deserve.”

“Recharging the California Test Drive” for the EV-Curious
IONNA is pairing more locations with a strong focus on quality and education. With the Westminster Rechargery Beacon as its first flagship California site, the company is rolling out a California “EV Education Program” to help new and curious drivers understand charging, road-trip planning, and the benefits of going electric.

Following each opening, IONNA ambassadors will team up with local dealerships and EV groups to host on-site events. It’s meant to be a low-pressure way for the “EV Curious” to ask questions, see how charging actually works, and imagine what a zero-emission lifestyle could look like for their daily commute or weekend escapes. Instead of dry presentations, these gatherings aim to feel more like a neighborhood meetup—with chargers.

Plug G Charge Integration Keeps Growing Across Brands
One of the most important lifestyle perks of IONNA’s network is simplicity: the goal is that drivers can just plug in and charge, without fumbling through apps or payment screens. IONNA Plug G Charge (also referred to as Plug C Charge in the source material) already works with five of the eight founding automakers—BMW, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, and Mercedes-Benz—with three more to follow by the end of 2026: Honda, Stellantis, and Toyota.

Now, Rivian and Ford drivers are being brought into the fold as well. Each Rechargery station is set up for seamless, automatic charging as an integrated partner with Rivian and a full-fledged member of Ford’s BlueOval™ Charge Network. For everyday EV owners, that translates into fewer steps, less friction, and more “park, plug, go” moments on long drives.

3 Ways IONNA Makes EV Life Easier for Drivers

  • More places to charge where you actually drive: With over 4,000 bays contracted across the U.S. and more than 1,000 in California alone, it’s easier to route trips around reliable fast charging.
  • Simpler charging, fewer apps: Plug G Charge integration with major automakers means many drivers can activate charging automatically without digging out wallets or QR codes.
  • Support for new EV drivers: On-site EV education events help demystify charging, so making the switch from gasoline feels less intimidating and more exciting.

Living the Brand: From Chargers to Merch
IONNA is also leaning into lifestyle branding. Just in time for holiday gifting, the company is teasing a limited “swag drop” via its online merch presence at shop.ionna.com. The collection promises local flavor, retro style and a touch of nostalgia, designed to celebrate not just the chargers themselves, but the people, places, and EVs that make up its growing community.

It’s a playful contrast to the heavy infrastructure story: while billions of dollars and thousands of bays build the backbone of the network, branded apparel and accessories give EV fans a way to wear their enthusiasm—whether they’re early adopters, road-trip regulars, or just proud to be part of the electric shift.

A Joint Venture Built for the Long Road Ahead
Behind IONNA is a powerful coalition of eight global automakers—BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Stellantis, and Toyota—working together on one shared network rather than eight separate ones. The mission is ambitious: enable urban and long-distance EV mobility for all, with more than 30,000 ultra-fast, reliable charging points by 2030.

For drivers, California’s latest wave of Rechargery stations is a clear sign of what that future might look like: more chargers where they’re needed, smoother plug-in experiences that work across brands, and a growing sense that electric driving isn’t just possible—it’s practical, social, and increasingly fun.
