Amsterdam – September 12, 2026 -- Euro NCAP awarded the AION UT electric hatchback a five-star safety rating on September 2, covering all left- and right-hand-drive variants and configurations.
New four-stage protocol shapes the 2026 score
Euro NCAP's revised 2026 testing framework evaluates vehicles across four stages: safe driving, crash avoidance, crash protection, and post-crash safety. The AION UT scored 66% in safe driving, 74% in crash avoidance, 91% in crash protection, and 88% in post-crash safety, earning its overall five-star rating.
Occupants and child dummies received strong protection scores
In the offset frontal crash test, Euro NCAP reported good or adequate protection for all occupants, with the two rear child dummies receiving maximum marks. The full-width frontal test showed good or adequate protection across most body zones. The AION UT achieved maximum scores in side pole-impact tests, including far-side impact assessment. A center airbag reduces contact between front-row occupants during side impacts.
Standard driver-assist systems target cyclists and blind-spot risks
Euro NCAP praised the autonomous emergency braking system's performance across multiple advanced test scenarios involving vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and cyclists. The AION UT comes standard with emergency lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, reverse autonomous emergency braking, and a system designed to prevent door-opening accidents involving cyclists.
Side windows stayed operable more than two minutes after submersion
Post-crash testing covered rescue information, eCall system availability, and vehicle function following water immersion. Euro NCAP found the AION UT's side windows remained electrically operable for more than two minutes after submersion.
