Brussels – September 10, 2026 -- GAC's fully electric AION UT hatchback has earned a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP under the organization's newly revised 2026 testing protocols, which apply significantly stricter criteria than previous years.

Euro NCAP, widely regarded as one of the most rigorous crash-test authorities in the world, evaluated the AION UT across four categories: safe driving, collision avoidance, collision protection, and post-collision safety. GAC's small EV performed consistently across all four.
The car's body uses 71% high-strength steel and a double-ring hot-stamped design
Structural engineering behind the result includes a single-piece hot-stamped double-ring frame, a 180mm extra-wide crash box, and a high-strength bumper beam built for heavy load capacity. For occupant protection, the AION UT adds 2.1-meter V-shaped side air curtains and side airbag coverage, features GAC says exceed typical standards for its vehicle class.
All-weather driving systems include cabin monitoring tools labeled CPD, DMS, and OMS
Beyond the steel structure, the AION UT runs active safety algorithms designed for a full range of driving scenarios, paired with a precision chassis and wide tires. The vehicle also incorporates what GAC describes as ultra-safe battery technology alongside its cabin monitoring suite.
GAC said the five-star certification reflects international recognition of the AION UT's safety engineering, framing it as part of the company's ongoing commitment to occupant protection across its electric vehicle lineup.
