Tallahassee – September 13, 2026 -- Florida is still sitting on more than $4.5 billion across 13 million-plus claimable accounts, even after returning a record $847 million to residents in the past year. The state's official portal says one in five Floridians has unclaimed money waiting for them.
The figures come from CFO Blaise Ingoglia's first year in office, spanning July 2025 to July 2026. In July 2026 alone, $57 million went back to residents, including $15.3 million in Tampa/St. Petersburg, $10.5 million in Orlando and $10.05 million in Miami. February and March 2026 each set new monthly records, with $88 million and $92 million returned respectively.
Senate Bill 1452 forces more disclosure, not automatic payouts
Signed into law on June 26, 2026, Senate Bill 1452 strengthens notification rules for unclaimed property in Florida. It adds certified-mail notices for property worth $1,000 or more and requires any financial property valued at $10 or more to appear on the state's searchable database. The law does not send money to residents automatically -- they still have to search, prove ownership, gather documentation and file a claim.
Reclaim.org walks residents through the claims process
Ricky Maldonado, CEO of Reclaim.org, said record returns are encouraging but the billions still unclaimed show how much money hasn't reached its rightful owners. He said the new law should make funds easier to find and notices harder to miss, but locating money is only the first step -- his organization helps people understand requirements, prepare documentation and move claims forward.
Claims involving deceased owners, heirs or dissolved businesses often require extra documentation and can be harder to resolve than a standard individual claim.

Floridians can search the state's official database at FLTreasureHunt.gov. Those who receive a notice or want help navigating the required paperwork can turn to Reclaim.org for guidance.
