Backyard Pavilion Doubles as Solar Power Plant, Debuting in 2027

El Segundo, Calif. – October 06, 2026 -- Outer Spaces has launched a backyard pavilion that generates solar power and stores it in a hidden battery built into the deck, with the first units arriving in 2027 in Southern California and select markets.

The system hides batteries beneath a finished outdoor deck

The product, called OS1, pairs a solar-generating roof structure with a "power deck" that houses ultra-thin battery storage underneath a walkable outdoor floor. The pavilion produces electricity during the day and can supply backup power to the home during an outage, functioning as an outdoor living room, kitchen, office, gym or wellness space.

Two sizes will offer up to 60 kilowatt-hours of storage

OS1 will come in 12-by-12-foot and 12-by-24-foot configurations, adding 144 or 288 square feet of finished outdoor space. Solar generation ranges from 2.4 to 5.3 kilowatts, with battery storage between 15 and 60 kilowatt-hours -- enough, the company says, to offset a meaningful share of daily household electricity use.

Installation skips concrete and lumber cutting

The modular system is designed for rapid on-site assembly with minimal to no excavation, no concrete pouring and no lumber cutting, after which a licensed electrician connects it to the home's power supply. Homeowners will configure and order systems online, with the company also selling through solar installers, builders, landscapers, developers and designers.

An $8 million pre-seed round backs the launch

Outer Spaces raised $8 million in pre-seed financing led by Upfront Ventures, with participation from Unlock Venture Partners, Mucker Capital and Genius Ventures. The company was founded by Jiake Liu, Terry Lin and Robin Liao, who previously built the outdoor living brand Outer.

"The land and sunlight outside our homes are two of our most valuable, yet underutilized resources," said Jiake Liu, co-founder and CEO of Outer Spaces.

Pricing for OS1 will be announced in early 2027. Homeowners can register at the company's website for launch pricing updates and priority installation scheduling, while installers, builders, developers and designers can apply to a partner program. Outer Spaces will publicly show the system for the first time at RE+ 2026, running November 16-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
