Tongwei's 490 W Home Solar Panel Targets Small Roofs

Chengdu – – October 13, 2026 -- Tongwei Solar has launched the TNC 2.0 FULLX G12R-48, a 48-cell residential solar module rated at up to 490 W and 24.5% efficiency, built to squeeze more power from limited roof space.

The panel measures 1,762 × 1,134 × 30 mm and comes in two versions: Full Black and Black Frame. According to Zander Yuan, Director of Product & Technology at Tongwei Solar, the 490 W rating is around 30 W more than conventional TOPCon modules of a comparable format. Homeowners can therefore install more capacity without adding modules.

Tongwei's tests show 3.3% more energy per watt than copper-plated BC modules

Under Tongwei's own test conditions, the module generated an average of 3.3% more energy per watt than copper-plated back-contact (BC) modules. The company credits lower leakage current and stronger low-light performance.

At an irradiance of 200 W/m2, a TNC module retains 19.42 W of an initial 100 W, against 18.60 W for a copper-plated BC module. The gap matters most in the early morning and late afternoon.

Yancheng field tests logged 447.56 full-load hours against 433.27

In tests in Yancheng, the TNC module reached 447.56 equivalent full-load hours, compared with 433.27 for copper-plated BC modules. Its generation advantage climbed to as much as 12.32% during early morning and late afternoon under the tested conditions.

Tongwei also points to potential savings. Based on specific pricing assumptions, a 485 W TNC module could deliver comparable energy output to a 500 W copper-plated BC module, potentially saving more than €400 in module costs for a 12-module system. Actual results depend on installation conditions, local electricity tariffs and product pricing.

German simulations show smaller losses across orientations and soiling levels

Simulations using German conditions showed lower low-light generation losses for the TNC module across different roof orientations than for the copper-plated BC module tested. It also lost less power under light, moderate and heavy soiling.

Design is aimed at visible rooftops. A zero-cell-gap layout and concealed current-collection features create a uniform look, while dual-glass construction and protective sealing are intended to support long-term outdoor reliability.
