SAN FRANCISCO – October 29, 2026 -- WaterField Designs has launched the Shield Case for Steam Frame, a $169 handcrafted carrying case for Valve's VR headset, which ships without a dedicated case. The case holds the headset, both controllers and the included wireless adapter in a foam-reinforced, fleece-lined interior.
A separate compartment keeps controllers apart from the headset
Inside the main case sits a Padded Accessory Case, placed between the goggles and the headband. Its main compartment holds both controllers, and it cushions and helps stabilize the headset. An Ultrasuede pocket holds the wireless adapter, with room for an Arcturus Vision Camera next to it.
"The tricky part was fitting the controllers without making the case larger than it needed to be," said founder Gary Waterfield.
Foam, fleece and waterproof zippers guard against bumps and scratches
Firm foam reinforces all sides of both the Shield Case and the Padded Accessory Case. Three-layer, foam-padded fleece lines the interior, and cushioned zipper guards help protect the headset from scratches. Waterproof YKK zippers secure the main compartment and the exterior pocket.
The headset fits with its headband extended or collapsed, and with or without the eye spacer attached.
Extra pockets hold cables, a power adapter and an AirTag
A plush, padded pocket in the main compartment holds a power adapter, power cables and other accessories. A diagonal zippered front pocket takes a USB-C cable, a cleaning cloth or other small items, and a hidden pocket holds an AirTag. A wide padded handle allows hand carry, and D-rings accept an optional 1-inch shoulder strap, which is not included.
Six color combinations, with leather versions at $189
The case is made in small batches in San Francisco from 1680-denier ballistic nylon, 15-ounce waxed canvas or Forza, a nylon with a two-tone basketweave. Colors are black ballistic nylon, tan waxed canvas, blue Forza and titanium Forza. Two versions add full-grain leather accents: black nylon with black leather, and tan canvas with chocolate leather.
