New York – September 19, 2026 -- iPhone users who installed the iOS 27 beta and want out now have two options: Apple's official recovery-mode restore, which wipes the device entirely, or a third-party downgrade tool that claims to preserve personal data during the process.
Apple's own method erases everything on the phone
To remove iOS 27 through Apple's official channel, users must first back up their device while still on iOS 26, since an iOS 27 backup cannot be restored onto iOS 26. The process requires disabling Find My iPhone, connecting the device to a PC or Mac, entering Recovery Mode by pressing Volume Up, then Volume Down, then holding the Side Button, and using iTunes or Finder to restore the device. This wipes all data on the iPhone.
Tenorshare ReiBoot offers a data-preserving alternative
For users who want to avoid a full wipe, Tenorshare Co. Ltd. markets its ReiBoot software as a way to downgrade from iOS 27 to iOS 26.7 in about 20 minutes while keeping personal data intact. The company says the tool addresses over 150 iOS-related issues, including battery drain, lag, and stuck "Update Requested" errors.
The downgrade process involves downloading ReiBoot on a computer, connecting the iPhone, selecting the Downgrade option under iOS Upgrade/Downgrade, letting the software fetch the latest signed iOS 26.7 firmware, and clicking Initiate Downgrade. Tenorshare states the tool is designed for beginners and completes the swap without erasing user data.
There's no computer-free way to fully exit the beta
Users without access to a PC or Mac cannot remove iOS 27 outright, but they can stop further unstable beta updates. Going to Settings, then General, then Software Update, then Beta Updates, and toggling Beta Updates off will pause new beta installs until Apple releases the official public version.
