Script Portability Lets You Pick a Pharmacy Before Your Rx Is Sent

New York – October 21, 2026 -- RVO Health's Script Portability technology lets consumers see their pharmacy options, with cost and convenience details, before a prescription is sent. The company has now received its third U.S. patent covering the capability.

A third patent joins two earlier ones in the Siegel family

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted U.S. Patent No. 12,580,060 B2. The earlier patents in the same family are No. 11,651,843 and No. 12,119,098.

A portable "master script" replaces single-pharmacy routing

Traditionally, a prescription goes to one pharmacy before the consumer sees any alternatives. Script Portability instead surfaces the prescription as a portable "master script." Consumers can then decide where to send it based on cost, convenience, and other information, at any point in the prescription-writing and fulfillment journey. RVO Health says this turns a process that once took days into one that takes minutes.

Price and life changes often force a pharmacy switch

David McSweeney, Executive Vice-President at RVO Health, says cost is a leading reason consumers abandon or delay filling prescriptions, and that "the moment to act on a better price is usually gone before consumers even see it." On-benefit pricing is often available, but it typically isn't viewed until after the script has gone to a pharmacy, when switching is harder.

Travel, vacations, snowbirding, emergencies, pharmacy inventory issues, and coverage changes such as a pharmacy leaving a network can also force consumers to fill somewhere new. Providers, meanwhile, spend hours each week manually moving scripts between pharmacies. Script Portability is designed to remove that manual work through digital interfaces.

RVO Health says additional patent applications are pending before the USPTO.
