100+ Booths Line a 1.2-km Riverbank at Lancang-Mekong Carnival

Beijing – October 30, 2026 -- Visitors to Jinghong City in southwest China's Yunnan Province can browse more than 100 booths along a 1.2-kilometer stretch of the Lancang River, where the Lancang-Mekong Treasures Carnival opened on October 28.

The carnival is a key supporting event of the 14th Culture and Art Festival of Countries in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin. Jinghong is the capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. The event runs under the theme "encounter the Lancang-Mekong, encounter fine treasures."

Booths are split into six themed sections

The booths are organized into tea, beans, crafts, fruits, rainforest food and rainforest stays. Travel photography and cultural creative scenarios are set up alongside them.

Local specialties, delicacies and handcrafted goods share the riverbank with products from Lancang-Mekong countries.

The program mixes shopping, shows and tastings

The carnival combines industrial promotion, intangible cultural heritage shows, cultural performances and consumer benefit activities.

International guests have sat down with local inheritors to discuss craftsmanship and farm produce. The source describes these tastings and face-to-face conversations as the way the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation vision of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits plays out in practice.

The festival behind it is more than 30 years old

The Culture and Art Festival of Countries in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin has connected peoples across the basin for more than 30 years. The carnival extends that festival.

Xishuangbanna plans to keep using the festival platform to promote people-to-people exchanges along the river.
