Seattle – October 28, 2026 -- Alaska Airlines will start its first nonstop service between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita on May 13, 2027, with introductory round-trip fares from $999. The seasonal route links Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Narita International Airport. It remains subject to government approval.
Introductory fares start at $999 round-trip
The $999 fares apply to travel from Anchorage to Tokyo Narita between May 13 and June 7, 2027, subject to availability. They are on sale through October 31 and require a round-trip purchase. Tickets are sold on the Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines websites.
The route runs daily in summer, then three times a week
Flights operate daily in the summer through Sept. 7, 2027. Service drops to three times weekly in the winter, beginning January 2028.
A Boeing 737 MAX 8 flies the route because of its range
Alaska says the MAX 8 has a longer range than the 737 MAX 10. It is the only 737 in the airline's fleet that can serve this route.
First Class passengers get priority boarding, recliner seats and multi-course dining that starts with Alaska's Signature Charcuterie. They also receive Filson-designed blankets and pillows, plus a Filson amenity kit with Salt & Stone products. First Class guests can use the Alaska Lounge in Anchorage before departure.
Main Cabin and Premium Class passengers receive a complimentary meal with a hot entrée and dessert, and vegetarian options are available. Premium Class adds complimentary West Coast non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
Atmos Rewards members get free Wi-Fi from T-Mobile on select flights while Alaska continues installing Starlink Wi-Fi across its MAX 8 narrowbody fleet.
Alaska positions Tokyo as a gateway for tourism and business
Alaska Airlines Regional Vice President Marilyn Romano called it a long-requested route that will open new opportunities for tourism and commerce. Governor Mike Dunleavy said Alaska is the only U.S. domestic carrier with scheduled service to Tokyo. He pointed to the Northern Lights and Denali National Park as draws for visitors, and to resource and business partnerships with Japan.
Three more seasonal routes join the Anchorage schedule
Alaska will also add seasonal nonstop service from Anchorage to Nashville, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth in 2027. Together with Tokyo, the new routes create the airline's largest-ever nonstop schedule from Alaska, as it marks 95 years of service next year.
