Valencia -- Cunard will send Queen Mary 2 into dry dock on March 31, 2027, for a refurbishment adding 31 new staterooms and upgraded wellness, dining and retail spaces before the ship returns to service on May 9, 2027.
Thirty-one new staterooms join the world's only ocean liner
The refit adds 16 new Cunard Princess Grill Suites and 15 new Britannia-category staterooms. Every existing Grill Suite will get refreshed interiors, furnishings and new spa-inspired bathrooms, while the Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants are also being updated.
Pet kennels and outdoor decks expand for transatlantic crossings
Queen Mary 2's kennels -- the only dedicated kennels at sea -- will be redesigned with increased capacity, a refurbished owners' lounge and a larger outdoor walking area. Additional outdoor deck space will be added, and deck games, paddle tennis and pickleball remain on board.
Illuminations planetarium gets a digital upgrade
Mareel Wellness & Beauty is being transformed, and a new collection of luxury stores will bring boutique-style shopping to the ship. Illuminations, billed as the largest planetarium at sea, will receive a major digital upgrade, while the Royal Court Theatre continues hosting West End and Broadway productions.
Work happens at a French shipyard where Cunard has refit ships before
The refurbishment takes place at Damen Shiprepair Brest in France. The project follows Queen Mary 2's appearance in New York Harbor for Sail 4th 250, the centerpiece of the United States' 250th Independence Day celebrations.
Original designer Chris Finch returns to lead the refresh
Chris Finch, one of Queen Mary 2's original designers, is leading the design vision, described as blending classic Hollywood glamour with British tradition. Cunard has also partnered with illustrator Tanu Vasu to create a bespoke collection of illustrations depicting the refurbishment.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said the investment aims to refine what guests already love about the ship rather than reinvent it. New suites and staterooms went on sale May 18, 2026, for voyages departing from May 2027, covering transatlantic crossings, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Canada and Caribbean itineraries.
