Tucson, Arizona – September 13, 2026 -- JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa has completed a full renovation of its 524 guestrooms and 51 suites, adding 16 suites to meet demand from luxury travelers.
New suite categories target families and stargazers
The resort introduced Family Bunk Bed Suites, pairing a king bed with twin bunks, alongside a new JW Camper Experience that includes a child-sized play camper, a campfire prop, sleeping bag, cookies, and an activity book. Four new Sonoran Starr Suites offer 1,275 square feet of living space plus an 868-square-foot private terrace, complete with a premium telescope for viewing Tucson's dark skies. Junior Suites grew by 13, and Executive Suites expanded from 15 to 20, each with separate living areas and private balconies.
Design pulls colors and materials from the surrounding Sonoran Desert
Rooms now feature earthy ochre, sage, rosemary, thyme, and cactus-green tones echoing nearby Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park. Patinated metals, natural hardwoods, canvas, and custom artwork inspired by native pottery fill the spaces, while beds have been repositioned closer to windows to frame desert views. Bathrooms were rebuilt with walk-in showers, stone finishes, and double vanities.
Christy Thompson, design lead and Principal of Ellis Adams Group, said the transformation aimed to honor "the rugged beauty and layered history of Starr Pass" while blending Southwest architecture with nature-inspired living.
Renovation follows earlier upgrades to golf, event space, and pools
The room overhaul builds on previous work at the property, including a renovation of more than 115,000 square feet of meeting and event space, an update to the resort's 27-hole PGA-caliber golf course and clubhouse, and additions to the pool complex featuring Southern Arizona's largest lazy river and waterslide plus a separate adults-only pool. Updates to the resort's market and retail areas are planned for this fall.
General Manager Dean Callahan said the property's staff aim to help guests "slow down, connect, and create lasting memories" while building a personal connection to the surrounding landscape.
