Walt Disney World – October 24, 2026 -- Parts of Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. land at Disney's Hollywood Studios, will open to guests in 2027, even as work continues on the door coaster. Disney revealed the first details during "Horizons: A Carousel of Progress" at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa.
Host Neil Patrick Harris welcomed Michael Hundgen, Vice President Creative, and Chris Beatty, Vice President at Walt Disney Imagineering, who walked through the new locations. The land is a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios.
Randy Newman writes his first theme park song
"Welcome to Monstropolis" is the first song Disney Legend Randy Newman has composed for a Disney theme park. Guests will hear it when the land opens.
Mike and Sulley host a new show at the Glob Theater
The Glob Theater will stage a show also titled "Welcome to Monstropolis." Mike and Sulley introduce humans to the city and point out how similar monsters and humans are. Sulley has prepared a small, homespun show, while Mike has a few surprises of his own.
Archie's Scare Pig Pizza anchors the dining lineup
Archie's Scare Pig Pizza is billed as Monstropolis' top-rated pizza. It is named for Archie, Fear Tech's six-legged mascot, who became a fan favorite on both campuses after MU students repeatedly "borrowed" him.
Next door, the Monsters University Alumni Club opens to humans eating at Archie's. It presents the school's student clubs, fraternities and sororities, plus the elite Scarer's Club honoring legendary scarers from years past.
Harryhausen's brings a sushi chef to life as an animatronic
Harryhausen's Restaurant, the setting of one of Mike and Celia's most memorable dates, features the famed sushi chef as a new Audio-Animatronics figure. His tentacles prepare Monster-worthy creations, and the menu goes beyond sushi. Hundgen described it as "a menu unlike anything else we offer at Walt Disney World."
The Scareporium rounds out the stops as the shop for souvenirs.
H.U.M.A.N. Day invites humans in for the first time
The city's new Department of Human Relations is behind H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for "Humans Understanding Monsters Are Nice." The event is part celebration and part cultural exchange. Human guests can explore the city, meet its citizens and taste its cuisine.
The story behind it: after Sulley and Mike discovered that human laughter generates far more power than screams, fear in Monstropolis gave way to curiosity. Monstropolis will roll out the welcome mat for H.U.M.A.N. Day in 2027.
