Hamburg – September 04, 2026 -- German public broadcaster NDR is celebrating 20 years of its documentary series "Die Nordreportage" with a free cinema tour across northern Germany and a two-week television special starting September 28.
Four cities host premiere screenings between September 28 and October 2
The tour stops at Kino Center Husum on September 28, Ozeaneum Stralsund on September 29, Filmpalast Lüneburg on October 1, and ASTOR Film Lounge HafenCity in Hamburg on October 2. Each evening pairs a classic episode with an unreleased new production, followed by a chance for audiences to meet the filmmakers and the people featured on screen.
Premieres include "Notruf auf Fehmarn" in Husum, "110 hautnah" in Stralsund, a new installment of "Rollys Trucker-Imbiss" in Lüneburg, and a feature on Hamburg's Davidwache police station in the HafenCity screening.
Viewers can enter to win tickets until September 13
NDR is offering free tickets to the screenings through an online entry form on ndr.de, with the deadline set for September 13.
The series launched in January 2006 and airs across three platforms
The first episode aired on January 9, 2006 at 6:15 p.m. on NDR Fernsehen. Since then, the 30-minute format has profiled tradespeople, farmers, paramedics and restaurant owners across northern Germany. The show now streams on ARD Mediathek and on the YouTube channels "NDR Doku" and "NDR auf'm Land," drawing strong viewership across age groups.
A television marathon and new episodes follow the tour
NDR Fernsehen will broadcast a selection of the most popular past episodes Monday through Thursday at 6:15 p.m. starting September 28, followed by an overnight special, "Die Lange Nacht 20 Jahre Nordreportage," beginning at 1:00 a.m. on September 29. A best-of episode on street food, "Heiß, fettig und mit ganz viel Herz," airs October 4 at 8:15 p.m. The four new episodes previewed during the cinema tour will then air from October 5, with many classic and new episodes also available on ARD Mediathek.
Deputy NDR director Andrea Lütke said the series has spent two decades telling stories close to real life, meeting people with respect and curiosity while showing what unites the region.
