Global Worker Engagement Drops to 20% as Low Productivity Costs World Economy $10 Trillion

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 12, 2026 – Global employee engagement has fallen for the second consecutive year, hitting just 20% — a decline that Gallup estimates cost the world economy approximately $10 trillion in lost productivity in the most recent measured year. The drop is being driven in large part by what Gallup researchers are calling a manager engagement collapse, a trend that is pulling down overall workplace performance across industries and geographies. The findings come from Gallup's latest annual workplace report, which draws on data from more than 4,000 organizations worldwide and captures sentiment from workers across more than 160 countries represented by the firm's World Poll.
