LOUIS XIII Unveils $28,000 BLACK PEARL Cognac, Limited to 398 Decanters

Cognac – September 13, 2026 -- LOUIS XIII Cognac has launched BLACK PEARL: TRIBUTE TO THE BIRTHPLACE OF LOUIS XIII, a new limited-edition expression priced at $28,000 per decanter and capped at just 398 bottles worldwide.

The release is inspired by Le Grollet, the historic cellar where the LOUIS XIII story began. Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau selected an extraordinary eau-de-vie from the House's collection of demijohns -- the only one identified as carrying the distinct signature of Le Grollet, a trait passed down from his predecessor, Pierrette Trichet. Loiseau infused it into a single, hand-selected tierçon to create the blend.

Each decanter ships with its own cooling cellar

LOUIS XIII designed a first-of-its-kind tasting ritual meant to recreate the natural conditions of Le Grollet. Each BLACK PEARL decanter arrives in a bespoke cooling cellar that keeps the liquid at a minimum of 13°C (55.4°F). As the cognac warms in the glass, its flavor profile shifts, moving through beeswax, honey, and patchouli before revealing warm spices, richer rancio, nutmeg, and hints of chocolate.

The decanter's design nods to the cellar's darkness

The reimagined LOUIS XIII decanter carries midnight-blue reflections meant to evoke the mystery and depth of Le Grollet.

Baptiste Loiseau described tastings inside Le Grollet as shaped by the cellar's cool temperature, humidity, and dim winter light, calling the experience one that uncovers hidden facets of the cognac. Ludovic du Plessis, Director of Rémy Cointreau's Prestige Division, said the release marks the first time the House has brought the cellar experience beyond its walls through this specific temperature-driven ritual.

Tastings by the glass roll out to five cities

Following its global unveiling, BLACK PEARL will be poured by the glass at select venues in Paris, London, New York, Shanghai, and Kuala Lumpur, giving guests access to the ritual without purchasing a full decanter. Full decanters are sold through the LOUIS XIII network of private client directors.
