Dallas – October 16, 2026 -- The 21st annual Sam's Night raised $1.7 million, based on preliminary totals at press time, for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), and donations are still open at SamsNight.org. The Killian family of Rockwall, Texas, hosted the fundraiser on Thursday, October 15, at Victory Social.

Sam's Night has raised more than $10 million since it began

The event started more than two decades ago as Sam's Family Fun Day. It has grown alongside Sam Killian, now 24, who was diagnosed with Duchenne in 2005. Today it is an evening fundraiser that draws the Killians' friends, family, colleagues, and supporters.

The money supports PPMD's work on research, care, advocacy, and access to therapies. PPMD describes itself as the leading U.S. nonprofit driving Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy care, research, and advocacy.

Dallas – October 15, 2026 -- Anyone researching a nose job can now check how peers rate their surgeon: Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Rod J. Rohrich has been named the best rhinoplasty surgeon in the United States for the sixth year in a row in Newsweek's America's Best Plastic Surgeons 2026. Newsweek compiles the list with data research firm Statista across six cosmetic surgery categories. For the 2026 edition, thousands of medical professionals with knowledge of plastic surgery were invited to an online survey that ran from April through May.

Dallas – October 12, 2026 -- Southwest Airlines is letting Rapid Rewards Members earn a promotional Companion Pass by booking one qualifying round trip by August 6, 2026. The pass lets a friend or family member fly with them for free on later trips.

Register and book by August 6 to qualify

Members must register for the promotion and buy a Southwest revenue flight, either one qualifying round trip or two qualifying one-ways. Payment can be Rapid Rewards points, a mix of cash and points, or another eligible form of payment. Members must complete their travel by November 18, 2026.

Your companion flies for the cost of taxes and fees from January 5 to March 3, 2027

The promotional pass is valid for unlimited use on qualifying flights from January 5 through March 3, 2027. Members designate a Companion, who pays only taxes and fees, starting at $5.60 one-way.

Southwest cites a survey showing 76% of respondents feel burnout

In a Southwest-sponsored survey of more than 2,000 U.S. adults aged 18 to 64, conducted in August 2026, 76% said they are experiencing burnout. Another 68% said a trip is one way to regain control of their time. Sabrina Callahan, Southwest's Chief Digital & Marketing Officer, said the campaign encourages customers to turn their "breaking point" into a "booking point."

Montague County's population jumped 9.8% since 2020

U.S. Census Bureau estimates put Montague County's population at 21,966 as of July 1, 2025, up 9.8% from the April 1, 2020 estimates base. The growth comes as the Texas Real Estate Research Center reported statewide rural land prices rose 3.27% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, with a five-year annualized growth rate of 8.17%.

Dallas – October 06, 2026 -- The 13th Annual Great Americans Shoot raised $2.4 million for Special Forces Trust, funding mental health care and family support programs for Green Berets.

Held October 2–4 in the Dallas area, the event brought together 25 teams pairing civilian supporters with members of the nation's Special Operations Forces. A clay-target competition took place Saturday at Dallas Gun Club in Lewisville, followed by a multi-gun competition Sunday at Extreme Tactical Gun Club in Waxahachie. Representatives of Army Special Forces, Navy SEALs, Marine Raiders and Air Force Combat Controllers attended.
