Social media comparisons and AI content can worsen teen distress
According to Christy Schuster, Clinical Services Assistant Director of Residential Services at Youth Villages Inner Harbour, teens who internalize unrealistic online portrayals of success may develop feelings of inadequacy. She also flagged a newer concern: AI-generated content that mimics clinically backed mental health advice, which can mislead young people experiencing suicidal thoughts away from timely, expert human help.
