ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – October 29, 2026 -- Geico offers the lowest average premium for teen drivers at $153 a month, according to a new Quote.com report on teen car insurance rates. Teens carry higher driving risks than any other age group and pay the highest rates as a result, though discounts and experience can bring those rates down.
Travelers' average is nearly triple Geico's
Quote.com ranked the top 10 insurers for teen drivers by average monthly premium:
- Geico: $153
- State Farm: $178
- Auto Owners: $223
- Nationwide: $229
- American Family: $253
- Allstate: $318
- Farmers: $387
- Liberty Mutual: $398
- Progressive: $400
- Travelers: $443
These are averages, so individual quotes may land much closer together. Melanie Musson, a car insurance expert with Quote.com, notes that "car insurance quotes are highly individualized."
All 10 insurers offer good student and away-at-school discounts
State Farm offers up to a 35% discount for good students. Liberty Mutual offers up to 25% off for students away at school.
The good student discount is typically reserved for high school and college students with a 3.0 grade point average. The away-at-school discount applies to students who leave their car at home and attend college at least 100 miles away.
Full coverage costs more than double liability-only
At each of the 10 companies Quote.com compared, full coverage rates were more than double liability-only rates.
Gender also moves the price. Young male drivers are more likely to be involved in a crash than young female drivers, so in most states teen males pay significantly more than teen females.
Driving records matter too. A new driver who has an accident, gets a ticket or is convicted of a DUI can see premiums rise significantly.
