Plano, Texas – September 07, 2026 -- Lexus has unveiled the redesigned 2027 NX compact crossover, confirming the lineup will be 100% electrified with buyers choosing between a hybrid-electric (HEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. The model is expected to reach global markets by late 2026.
Four trims arrive in each powertrain option
The NX range will offer four versions across both HEV and PHEV setups: Premium, Premium+, F SPORT and Luxury.
The PHEV battery delivers more range and faster charging
The NX 450h+ uses a newly developed lithium-ion battery with an 8% power increase and 30% more capacity than its predecessor. Lexus estimates certain PHEV versions will achieve more than 40 miles of electric-only range, though official EPA ratings will be released closer to launch. DC fast-charging and a fast-charge port cover now come standard on PHEV models.
An e-Axle unit and SiC semiconductors boost efficiency
The redesigned system integrates the transaxle, motor and power control unit into a single e-Axle assembly, making the unit lighter and more compact while lowering the vehicle's center of gravity. Silicon carbide power semiconductors in the inverter further improve efficiency. Shifting the battery cell layout from longitudinal to transverse also increases lateral body rigidity.
An updated E-Four system keeps all-wheel drive engaged during straight-line driving
The new electronic all-wheel-drive system maintains continuous AWD operation not only during starts, cornering and wheel slip, but also while driving in a straight line, improving stability on low-traction surfaces like snow.
Chassis reinforcements and Nürburgring testing sharpen handling
Engineers reinforced the front and rear of the unibody, added a new floor crossmember and stiffened the tunnel ridge to increase body rigidity. New ultra-low-speed valve dampers respond to subtle suspension movement on versions without adaptive variable suspension. Tuning took place at Toyota's Shimoyama Technical Center and on Germany's Nürburgring circuit. The steering wheel diameter was reduced by 0.4 inches to 14.2 inches, paired with a variable-ratio steering rack across all trims.
A 14-inch touchscreen becomes standard, and Sensory Concierge debuts on higher trims
The Lexus Interface 14-inch display is now standard across every version, serving as the hub for navigation, entertainment and vehicle information. Luxury and F SPORT trims add Sensory Concierge, which combines lighting, sound and fragrance to personalize the cabin experience. Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 also expands detection capabilities and driver-assistance technology across the lineup.
