New York – September 22, 2026 -- Thousands of costumed dogs and their owners will descend on the East Village on Saturday, October 17, 2026, for the 36th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade.
Registration opens September 25 for limited parade spots
The nonprofit New York Dog Parade, led by founder Fern Watt, organizes the event to celebrate dog-human friendship in New York City. Registration to march is required and opens September 25 at 12 p.m. ET at NYDogParade.org, with spots filled on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited capacity inside Tompkins Square Park.
Kismet, founded by John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, presents this year's event
The pet lifestyle and dog food brand Kismet is the presenting sponsor, running a public festival block with photo opportunities, giveaways, rescue initiatives and freeze-dried "Nugs" treats for costumed marchers. Natalia Ruiz, Kismet's Chief Brand & Creative Officer, said the brand aims to celebrate "the joy, weirdness and deep companionship of life with dogs."
The Costume Competition will stream live for the first time
Because of the parade's popularity, participation in the legendary Costume Competition is limited to select registered participants. For the first time, spectators everywhere will be able to follow the competition live, with additional judges, route and programming details to be announced in the coming weeks.
Rescue dogs get the spotlight during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
New York Dog Parade is partnering with the ASPCA and Animal Care Centers of NYC to highlight adoptable dogs throughout October and celebrate rescue dogs marching in this year's parade. Additional partners include Fetch Pet Insurance, Earth Rated, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day for Pets, Allegra and the Veterinary Emergency Group.
