Rabat – September 18, 2026 -- Jinhua, a city in China's Zhejiang province, brought live opera performances, ceramic demonstrations and traditional tea ceremonies to Morocco's capital in early September as part of the 2026 Jinhua Culture and Tourism "Into Africa" program. The event, held at the China Cultural Center in Rabat under the theme "The Enduring Charm of Wuzhou: A Cultural Journey Through Porcelain and Tea," gave Moroccan audiences a hands-on introduction to Jinhua's history and tourism offerings.
Young performers staged a classic Wu Opera piece
Zhu Shuojing and Ouyang Mingju, performers from the Zhejiang Wu Opera Art Research Institute, presented The Heavenly Maiden Scattering Flowers, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Guests explored three interactive cultural stations
After the performance, attendees moved through dedicated areas focused on Wu Opera, traditional craftsmanship and tea culture. Wu Opera performers demonstrated signature stage movements and gestures for visitors to observe up close.
Shao Wenli, a practitioner of the Wuzhou kiln pottery tradition, showed guests ceramic relief techniques. Pan Lei, who continues the Juyan tea tradition, walked attendees through traditional methods of preparing and presenting tea. Visitors also took photos using bilingual transparent photo cards that combined elements of all three traditions.
The event ties into a broader China-Africa exchange initiative
The program was organized as part of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, supporting goals set by the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Jinhua said it plans to continue developing cultural exchange programs with partners across Africa.
