Hangzhou – October 11, 2026 -- Rihanna's golden embroidered dragon robe from the 2015 Met Gala is on public display in China until August 31, 2027, as part of a Guo Pei retrospective at the China National Silk Museum.
"Garden of Ethereal Realms: Guo Pei Costume Art Exhibition" opened on September 27, 2026, in the museum's Fashion Gallery. It covers four decades of work by Guo Pei, a leading figure in Chinese contemporary haute couture, and shows how her career has developed.
About 200 couture pieces fill four sections
The show presents approximately 200 haute couture works, organized into four sections and nine representative series. The sections are titled "Time, Fable, Rebirth," "Building Dreams, Legend," "Dream Isle Garden," and "Eastern Palace Echoes."
Series on display include One Thousand and Two Nights, Legend, Samsara, Paradise Island, and Children's Dream. Together they trace Guo Pei's work on garment structure, traditional techniques, material language, and East-West aesthetics.
Red-carpet looks and national-stage costumes share the floor
Beyond Rihanna's dragon robe, visitors can see red-carpet gowns made for Liu Shishi and Dilraba. The exhibition also includes costumes created for the Beijing Olympics and the CCTV Spring Festival Gala.
A folded-paper installation reinterprets the contours, layers, and power of haute couture through structural language.
A silk museum frames couture as textile history
The China National Silk Museum is dedicated to silk, textiles, and costume culture, and it places haute couture within the history of silk and dress. The exhibition invites visitors to look again at the contemporary value of traditional materials and craftsmanship, and at the time, skill, and creativity behind each piece.
