Denver – September 15, 2026 -- As fall sports and back-to-school activities ramp up, the U.S. Center for SafeSport is pushing parents and coaches to revisit free abuse prevention resources aimed at protecting young athletes.
SafeSport maintains a searchable database of banned individuals
The Center's Centralized Disciplinary Database (CDD) lists people banned or restricted from participating in sport within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. The database is updated in real time and free for anyone to search, with guidance available on what to do if a familiar name appears on the list.
Free courses target parents on grooming and coaching red flags
SafeSport offers no-cost online courses for families, including 'Is It Appropriate Coaching or Abuse?' and 'What Parents Need to Know About Grooming,' designed to help parents and guardians spot harmful behavior early. 'The Parent and Guardian's Handbook for Safer Sport' and the SafeSport Ready app compile these tools for on-the-go access.
Coaches get handbooks on bullying and disclosure response
For coaches, SafeSport provides guides such as 'The Bullying Prevention Handbook for Coaches of Minor Athletes' and 'Responding to Abuse or Misconduct Disclosures,' which outlines specific phrases and actions to take if an athlete discloses abuse or neglect. Additional resources cover building inclusive team environments and teaching bystander intervention.
"Returning to school and fall sports can be demanding, but it's important for parents and coaches to acknowledge the role they play in helping protect young athletes," said Monica Rivera, VP of Education & Research at the Center.
A recently updated continuing education course is now available
SafeSport also offers a continuing education course for volunteers within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, accessible through National Governing Bodies. Organizations outside the Movement can purchase a separate version of the course for their own volunteers.
SafeSport was established following high-profile sexual abuse cases involving minor athletes in Olympic and Paralympic sport during the mid-2010s, and opened in March 2017.
