Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Launches SGA Foundation in US and Canada

Oklahoma City – September 07, 2026 -- NBA champion and Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has launched The SGA Foundation, a new nonprofit registered as a charity in both the United States and Canada.

The foundation runs as a dual-country registered charity

The SGA Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States and a registered charity in Canada. Its footprint reflects the two places that shaped Gilgeous-Alexander's own path: Ontario and Oklahoma.

"We're building pathways for kids and the families raising them, built on self-belief, growth, and access," Gilgeous-Alexander said in announcing the launch.

Three pillars guide the foundation's work

The mission centers on Self-Belief, Growth, and Access, aiming to give kids and their families tools to build confidence, develop through mentorship and coaching, and gain real access to opportunity. Gilgeous-Alexander has pointed to his own experience being cut from his high school team, and rising through the ranks afterward, as the foundation's guiding story.

He noted his existing community work, including annual children's hospital visits, seasonal givebacks, and basketball camps, and said the foundation gives him a more intentional platform to continue that work over the long term.

His mother says the moment marks a personal milestone

Charmaine Gilgeous, Shai's mother, said she always told him he could become a doctor or an NBA player if he believed in himself. She said watching him build something rooted in supporting other families is the proudest moment of her life.

Programs and initiatives are due next month

The foundation is anchored in Ontario and Oklahoma, with plans to expand into other communities over time. It will maintain a year-round presence, with specific programs and impact initiatives set to be announced next month.
