New York – September 16, 2026 -- Consumer365 has spotlighted NELL, a Japanese direct-to-consumer mattress brand, in its 2026 cooling mattress coverage following the company's first U.S. launch.
NELL packs four times the standard coil count into its mattresses
A king-size NELL mattress contains 4,704 individually wrapped pocket coils, compared to the 500 to 1,000 coils typically found in standard mattresses, according to the company. Each coil responds independently to pressure, with firmer support built into the middle and perimeter zones and more contouring at the shoulders and hips.
Thin layers of foam and cotton sit above the coils, allowing air to move around the springs and through the comfort layers to help release heat and moisture during the night.
Handcrafted production traces back to a Japanese furniture town
NELL mattresses are made in Okawa, Fukuoka, a city with a long furniture-making tradition. Founder Koki Doi developed the design with local artisans and engineers, building more than 300 spring prototypes and calibrating the final coil specification in 0.1-millimeter increments using custom-built machinery.
The brand limits foam use to preserve long-term shape
NELL relies primarily on its pocket-coil structure rather than thick polyurethane foam, aiming to reduce the sagging that can occur as foam softens over years of use.
More than 220,000 customers have bought a NELL mattress
Founded in 2020, NELL became Japan's leading direct-to-consumer coil mattress brand by 2025 based on domestic sales, according to company figures. More than 220,000 customers have purchased from the brand to date.
U.S. buyers get a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty
NELL's U.S. launch includes twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king sizes. American customers receive a 365-night home trial, with free collection available on eligible comfort-related returns after at least 14 nights, plus a lifetime warranty. Delivery is free across the U.S. except Alaska and Hawaii, where an added fee applies.
