iRobot's New Roomba Max 875 Combo Tackles Carpets With Sealed Suction

Bedford, Mass. – September 07, 2026 -- iRobot has launched the Roomba Max 875 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock, priced at $1,199, alongside a cheaper sibling, the $899 Roomba Plus 678 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock, both available now at irobot.com and arriving at North American retailers later this month.

A sealing skirt changes how the robot grips carpet

iRobot's new SealForce Vacuuming Technology lowers a skirt from the robot's chassis to form a tight seal against carpet fibers, concentrating airflow instead of letting it escape around the edges. The Max 875 pairs this with 20 L/s of airflow and 35,000 Pa of suction, which iRobot says delivers three times deeper carpet cleaning than vacuuming without SealForce.

"With SealForce, we're able to seal the chassis against the carpet fibers, so the airflow ... has somewhere to go instead of escaping around the edges," said Adam Pope, iRobot's Vice President and Chief Engineer.

Heated mist and a bigger roller target dried-on stains

The Max 875 uses ultrasonic ThermaMist Technology to spray continuous heated mist while mopping, softening dried-on spills for what iRobot claims is twice the stain removal of mopping without it. Its PowerSpin Max Roller Mop, described as the industry's largest, scrubs at 300 RPM with 18 Newtons of downward pressure, spinning 2.5 times faster than the previous Roomba Max 775 model.

A self-lifting shield keeps rugs dry during mopping

Patented DriLift Technology detects carpet automatically, raising the mop and lowering a protective shield so rugs stay dry mid-clean. The robot's ClearView Pro Dual-Line LiDAR and PrecisionVision AI navigate rooms while avoiding more than 300 common household objects, and the AutoWash Dock washes the roller in 176°F water, dries it with 131°F heated air, and empties debris into a carbon AllergenLock bag for up to 90 days without manual maintenance.

The cheaper Plus 678 model uses a two-step spray-and-scrub system

The Roomba Plus 678 also runs on SealForce Vacuuming Technology, but with 18 L/s airflow and 30,000 Pa suction. Its SprayForce AI system pretreats messes with a 40,000 Pa burst of pressurized spray before the PowerSpin roller mop scrubs with 15 Newtons of pressure, a combination iRobot says improves mopping efficiency by up to 40% over mopping without SprayForce AI.

Both robots feature dual anti-tangle brush systems for pet hair, PerfectEdge Technology that extends the roller up to 45 mm along baseboards, and app-based controls compatible with Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant.
